About
Why Guided by a Nurse exists
Healthcare is often difficult for families to navigate even when excellent doctors and nurses are involved. Our role is to help patients and families understand the system and communicate effectively.
Why I Created Guided by a Nurse
Healthcare can quickly become overwhelming.
A hospitalization can lead to rehabilitation. A new diagnosis can introduce several specialists. An aging parent may suddenly need more support. Families can find themselves managing appointments, medications, discharge instructions, insurance questions, providers, and difficult decisions all at the same time.
Even people who have excellent physicians and nurses can struggle to understand how all the pieces fit together.
After spending more than two decades in the medical field, I have seen how much of a difference it can make when patients and families have someone knowledgeable in their corner.
That is why I created Guided by a Nurse.
My role is to help patients and families navigate healthcare with greater clarity and confidence. I help clients prepare for important conversations, organize information, understand next steps, coordinate healthcare-related activities, and advocate for their concerns and preferences.
Most importantly, I believe every person deserves to move through healthcare and life's transitions with the utmost dignity and respect.

Guided by a Nurse
With more than 20 years of experience in the medical field and 11 years as a Registered Nurse, Nadine M. Martinez brings extensive clinical experience and a deeply personal commitment to patient advocacy.
Her nursing background includes medical-surgical nursing, orthopedic care, neurology, stroke care, long-term care, geriatric care, and case management. Throughout her career, Nadine has worked with patients and families during some of the most challenging and important transitions in their lives.
Her approach to advocacy is grounded in a simple belief: every person deserves to be heard, understood, respected, and treated with dignity throughout their healthcare journey.
Nadine founded Guided by a Nurse to help patients and families navigate healthcare with greater clarity, organization, confidence, and support. Her goal is not to replace a client's doctors or healthcare team. Her role is to help individuals and families better understand what is happening, prepare the right questions, organize information, communicate more effectively with providers, and navigate important healthcare transitions.

Your Nurse. Your Advocate. Your Guide.
You don't have to figure everything out by yourself.
Start with a conversation. Tell us what's going on, and we'll talk about whether and how an RN advocate can help.
Guided by a Nurse is not an emergency medical service. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or seek appropriate emergency medical care.
